Roccia nera

Champoluc, 2024
Project: Francesca Oggioni Architects

Roccia Nera is the name of a peak in the Breithorn massif which is visible from the project and which is characterized by a slope so steep that even in the case of abundant snowfalls it always remains exposed, revealing the dark color of the stone. This uniqueness greatly intrigued Francesca to the point of wanting to name this project, which is different from those created in the valley, the same way.

Perfectly nestled in the landscape, the project stands in the quiet and sunny Crocetta, near the Frachey-Alpe Ciarcerio Funicular and the main starting points for the valley's paths and hiking itineraries. Roccia Nera consists of a large chalet housing apartments of different sizes and three exclusive independent chalets, all bright, immersed in nature, and cared for in every detail.

The view of the nearby peaks is framed by the large windows of the buildings, thus shifting the internal living experience towards nature, and the latter is brought towards the interiors through the choice of finishes. The sustainable materials of the façade are echoed in the domestic environments, creating a harmonious continuity and a balance between exterior and interior.

Wood is the protagonist, combined with stone and paints, all chosen with a natural finish, in respect of the Japanese aesthetic concept of Wabi Sabi, which celebrates the beauty of imperfection and transience. The living spaces are welcoming and serene and become the ideal place to spend time after a day outdoors.
